Q. What are AICA’s goals?
A. AICA aims to provide a forum for compliance professionals in the area of alternative investments to share information and to develop best practices as it relates to compliance obligations. AICA will also serve as an advocate with regulators in an attempt to ensure that regulations are as streamlined and efficient as possible.

Q. What are the membership fees?
A. Annual Membership Fees for 2008 are $1,000/ per member. This fee covers one compliance professional per firm. Additional compliance professionals at the same firm can be added to the membership for $250 per additional person per year.

Q. What do I get for my membership fees?
A. Open meetings of AICA are held once a quarter. Action committees and exploratory committees may be formed to deal with certain issues that are discussed. Participation on committees by all members is highly encouraged. All members receive the quarterly AICA newsletter highlighting important regulatory changes/news which occurred during the course of the quarter. Finally, one of AICA’s primary goals is to provide a set of standards and best practices to which all members have access.

Q. What is the difference between AICA and other industry groups?
A. AICA is dedicated to developing and sharing compliance best practices and fostering open communication among members of the alternative investments community. While other industry groups may touch on regulatory and compliance topics, this is AICA’s sole focus. AICA is primarily made up of compliance professionals from hedge fund, fund of fund and service provider firms.

Q. Is membership limited to U.S. managers only? Does AICA focus on U.S. regulations only?
A. Membership is open to any alternative investment manager regardless of their jurisdiction. However, the main focus of the association is U.S. regulations.

Q. How many members are there?
A. As of January 2008, there were approximately 40 members of AICA from over 35 different firms.

Q. Can I see a list of members?
A. As of the current date, the AICA membership has decided not to release its membership list to the public.

Q. Can I participate in meetings even though I am not in New York City?
A. Of course. All of the open meetings are also broadcast via videoconference so that members all over the globe can participate.

Q. Will AICA have contact with government regulators?
A. AICA expects that it will develop responses to proposed rules (i.e. “comment letters”) as well as develop suggested best practice guidelines that it may share with regulators.
